A synthetic peptide studied for cognitive signalling and neuroplasticity.
Semax (ACTH(4-7)-PGP) is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), modified with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence. Originally developed for neurological research, Semax has attracted scientific interest for its potential influence on neuroplasticity, neurotrophic signalling, learning and memory processes. Its biological activity has been investigated primarily through preclinical studies and a smaller body of human research.
Cognitive Function & Memory Research
Semax has been investigated for its effects on cognitive processes, including attention, learning and memory formation. Experimental studies have examined its influence on neuronal communication and signalling pathways associated with cognitive performance. Evidence for meaningful cognitive benefits in healthy humans remains limited.
BDNF & Neuroplasticity Signalling
One area of Semax research involves brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein involved in neuronal survival, synaptic communication and plasticity. Preclinical investigations have reported changes in BDNF-related signalling following Semax exposure, making it a subject of interest in studies of neural adaptation and cellular communication.
Neuroprotection & Cellular Response
Semax has also been examined in experimental models of cerebral ischaemia and neurological injury. Research has investigated its effects on cellular stress responses, inflammatory signalling and neurological recovery pathways. These findings remain dependent on the experimental models studied and should not be interpreted as established clinical benefits.
Storage & Handling: Semax research material should be stored according to its batch-specific documentation and validated stability conditions. Protect samples from unnecessary moisture, light exposure and temperature fluctuations. Reconstituted sample stability depends on the solvent, concentration and experimental handling conditions.
